The Drifters have recorded their own version of Sir Elton John's hit anthem 'Sacrifice' to be released as a charity single in aid of UK based HIV+/AIDS Charity MildMay. The single, to be released on June 28th 2009 marks the first official release by the group in 30 years.

There are currently thought to be over 33 million people living with HIV across the world. 90% of cases are found in the world’s poorest countries but with over 7,000 new cases being diagnosed in annually in the UK, on a yearly basis, it still remains a serious issue in our country.

Mildmay has been providing care for people living with HIV for over 21 years and was one of the first to respond to the accelerating crisis back in 1988. After opening Europe’s first dedicated HIV+AIDS hospice ward in the East end of London, Mildmay was called to extend its expertise to some of the areas where HIV+AIDS were hitting hardest - in sub-Saharan Africa and later, Eastern Europe.

Mildmay continues to be at the forefront of providing care and training for people living with HIV. In the UK it is the only specialist rehabilitation centre for people with HIV related brain impairment. Internationally it is providing groundbreaking training and care for some of the world poorest people. Mildmay has come a long way in those 21 years and will continue to strive towards a future where all people living with HIV can have the opportunity of life in all it’s fullness.
