The Drifters Reviews

Wow is the 1st thing i can say. With being a massive fan of the classics like saturday night at the movies, your more than a number and kissing in the back row of the movies to see it come alive was amazing. Such great choreography and staging. This is certainly no tribute band but the real deal and i love how they keep the drifters alive. I loved the fact they got people dancing in the ailes and i certainly had a smile on my face. Also i love how they got Chuter Ede Primary School involved. A perfect show from start to finish.
Boundary Sound, Newark, June 2011

Newark Palace Theatre Review

IT was a glitzy, stunning affair, a show with wonderful vocals, slick choreography and stunning disco lighting.
With over sixty vocalists in almost as many years, including the late and legendary Ben E King, the current line-up of the legendary US vocal group The Drifters, is Maurice Cannon, Damion Charles, Michael Williams and Ryan King.
All the favourites from the 60s and 70s were there, including Come on Over to My Place, Under the Boardwalk and soul classics, such as Sitting on the Dock of the Bay. And it was a nice touch to see pupils from Nottingham Academy Primary School join them for Stand by Me and Love Train.

New material from the band's most recent CD, Five Decades and Moore, in memory of the late Johnny Moore, and their new single Will you Dream of Me delighted all but it was the old favourites that had everybody on their feet.

With a finale that included Saturday Night at the Movies all went home exhilarated after an evening of classic nostalgia. Sue Crawford, Nottingham Evening Post, October 2010

Nottingham Evening Post

"A great night of nostalgic songs bringing back the sounds of one of the best harmony groups of the past 50 years. A highlight was the appearance of the original Drifters Joe Blunt and Butch Leake." June 2009

David Robey, Managing Editor, BBC London 94.9

"As a boy growing up in Britain in the '70s, songs such as "Kissing In The Back Row Of the Movies", "There Goes My First Love", "You're More Than A Number In My Little Red Book" and "Like Sister & Brother" formed part of the soundtrack to my early life. So, it's great that in 2009, the legacy lives on and the songs sound as fresh now as they did when they first floated out on the airwaves back then. Long live The Drifters; here's to the next six decades !"

Neil BUSATO-MARTIN, Sony Music - July 2009

"It was a great pleasure to help present the awards and Brenda and I had a wonderful time. The new lineup is terrific and they did my co-writers and me proud." ROGER GREENAWAY

Drifters songwriter and Senior Vice President of ASCAP International -Roger Greenaway - June 2009

It's great that such a legendary pioneering group are still going strong, and have indeed re-invented themselves to being out some fresh material –sure to attract fans old and new...

Trevor Thomas, Magic AM (April 2009)

Great show. Every member of the group took the lead role from the doo wop of the 50's through to their new single Sacrifice. You won't be in your seat for long with this show!

Alan Gray, New Style Radio, Birmingham - March 2009

This sell-out concert, held on behalf of The Chesney Trust, saw The Drifters at their very best, earning rapturous ovations for a unforgettable medley of songs, ranging from timeless classics to superb versions of modern numbers, including their soon-to-be-released new single,'Sacrifice'.

If ever four performers proved that their is no substitute for talent, musicality, commitment and sheer professionalism it was The Drifters who had the audience smiling and singing along from the first notes of 'Come on over to my place' to the final chorus of 'Kissin in the back row of the movies' almost two and a half hours later!

Mary Erskine and Stewart Melville School, Edinburgh - February 2009

"They were excellent. The guys had the packed crowd dancing and singing all night. They have such great energy and the songs are so wonderful, brilliant voices and musicians. Thanks for a brilliant night out."

Ged Robinson, BBC Tees, February 2009

"It was an amazing, full of energy show and the audience loved it. Everyone was dancing in the aisles".

Whiterock Theatre, Hastings - October 2008
